“Young soprano Elizabeth Gentner…has a supple, full-bodied voice perhaps better suited for a larger venue, but displayed a confidence and command of comedy unusual in a performer at such an early stage in her career.” ~Kathleen Whalen, Daily Republic Correspondent

0 Idomeneo #TodayInOpera
In 1781, Mozart’s grand opera Idomeneo premiered with Mozart conducting the Bavarian State Opera (Bayerische Staatsoper) in the Residence Theater (Residenztheater) in Munich (München).
The above scene, performed by dramatic soprano Hildegard Behrens, is just prior to the finale of the opera. Elettra has just been told by the gods that she will not be with Idamante with whom she is in love. Desolate, she looses her mind and begins having delusions of snakes tormenting her and she cries out that the must finish her own life.

0 Mark Your Calendars!
Thank you all for your support!
Now that my Computer has been repaired, I have been compiling notes, pictures and experiences. The last seven email updates are scheduled and I’m about halfway through this book!!!
Obviously, I’ve had some delays and the concerts that were originally scheduled for September had to be rescheduled. Now, both Ohio and Bay Area venues are scheduled, so it’s time to mark your calendars!
The concert will be entitled ‘Wanderlust – A Concert and Story’. I hope to see you at one of these two performances:
– January 12th, 2014 at 3:00 p.m., St George’s Church, 5520 Far Hills Ave, Dayton, OH 45429
– January 24th, 2014 at 7:30 p.m., Campbell Hall at Christ Church, 70 Santa Rosa Avenue, Sausalito, CA 94965
I so appreciate all of your help and support. Your email responses have been interesting and inspiring! I hope to have the chance to thank you in person at these concerts.
Much Love and Thanks,
Elizabeth F. Gentner

Well, Prague is not a place for the faint of heart.
I arrived at the main Prague train station running late for a performance I wanted to attend. I ran by an ATM and got some Czech Koruna, and headed to the taxi stand.
Now, I speak exactly zero Czech. I’ve sung in Czech a few times but that has very little to do with asking for directions in the language…
I walked up to the first cabbie and said “Dvořák Hall” then pointed to the map I had pulled up on my tablet. (Master level communicating, right?)
He just writes down 680 K on a little pad of paper he has with him… Fortunately, I am good at math to figure very quickly that he is asking for over $35 for a 2-3 mile ride….
So, I laughed at him and said no, shook my head and started to walk away.
Right then another cabbie comes running up to me asking “how much, how much?,” in fragmented English
So, I responded “150”
The second cabbie frowned, but nodded. So, I got a quick ride to where I needed to go for $8!
I learned later that this is a modus operandi for cab drivers in eastern Europe. Get a price before you get in! Buyer beware!
